Dear subscribers
At this time of year, engaged and interested professionals (and as a reader of EDDi, that’s you) often start to ponder their options: for some that’s a new job or the next career move; for others it’s further study.
We’ve covered career moves and international teaching jobs in the book, over the next few EDDi Extras we’ll focus on postgraduate study.
In this ‘Extra Special’ we offer the first of a series of reflections by Dr Mike Whalley. Beginning with the decision to embark on the Doctoral journey, the series covers the practicalities of studying whilst in full time work, the process of writing the thesis, the viva, and the surprisingly mixed emotions on completion.
Part I asks why a busy middle-aged school teacher would embark on a postgraduate study journey that would promise to affect his professional and personal life for potentially the next six years?
On a related theme, we also have a postgraduate tips piece:
And, for those already engaging with postgraduate theory, there’s a Sociologically Thinking article:
What is Derrida’s contribution to understanding postmodernism?
Part II of the series will be published in late February (if you haven’t already, subscribe to make sure it lands in your Inbox). The next edition will be a traditional digest, arriving in early February.
See you in a few weeks time.
Happy reading
