Dear subscribers
This week’s EDDi no doubt finds some of you on the cusp of, or perhaps even in the middle of, a term break. Wherever you are spending it, we hope it’s relaxing and refreshing - for sure, it’s well-earned.
If you didn’t catch it, the powerful EDDi Extra we published last Sunday is well worth adding to your holiday reading. Provocatively titled ‘The Next Generation of Rapists is in Your Classroom Now’ it’s a timely piece on the ‘Everyone’s Invited’ movement - and how it affects schools and educators everywhere, not just those in the UK.
If you’d like some holiday listening, there’s a related podcast ‘Men! What can you do to help fight misogyny?’ by the Guardian here (kindly shared by a reader of the EDDi Extra piece).
For this week’s EDDi, we have a themed edition.
If you are a regular reader of EDDi then no doubt you’ll have noticed two new contributors to our digests over the past month or so – Sampoerna Academy and Sampoerna University.
However, unless you happen to be an educationalist in Indonesia, where Sampoerna is based, then it’s very likely this extensive and progressive international educational operation will be unfamiliar to you.
Well, it need not be unfamiliar any longer because EDDi recently recorded an interview with some key members of Sampoerna Academy and this week’s ‘Long Read’ piece is the result:
It makes for fascinating reading.
Accompanying that piece are five articles/digests by staff working at Sampoerna University:
Developing Students’ Collaboration Skills Through Project-Based Learning in Statistics
Solving Word Problems: Thoughts on Linguistic DifficultiesThe Ideal Mathematics Classroom: Changes Over Time
Professional Development in Maths: Promoting Algebraic Thinking Skills
Academic Vocabulary: A study of EFL students’ lexical performance in university writing
Coming from a range of teachers and academics, these articles are part of EDDi’s attempt to share and celebrate the diversity of voices to be found across international education.
Each article offers a unique perspective into a global educational theme, seen from the perspective of Sampoerna University staff.
We hope you enjoy and value their contributions - we are proud to share their voices.
Happy reading
