Dear subscribers
As we continue to showcase the ‘new look’ EDDi 2.0, this week we have a long read opinion piece.
And what a piece it is.
The title tells you all you need to know:
That sound you hear is China reversing globalisation and crashing international schooling.
That ‘sound’, as a reader of EDDi you will no doubt be aware, is the cacophony of news coming out of China: tutoring restricted, new regulations for international schools, curbs on curricula, and (amongst other things) a ban on English language exams (in Shanghai at least).
And, the ‘crashing’? That’s the far reaching implications. In particular, the question whether British private schools in China may have reached their high water mark.
Spoiler: Yes (probably) is the answer.
It’s a longer read, so find yourself a comfortable chair, top-up your favourite drink, and settle in for a thought-provoking read.
Of course, you’ll have your own opinions. Let us know in the comments. After all, as international educators, what happens in China over the next decade may affect what happens to all of us.
Before you grab that drink, a quick reminder that EDDi readers can get a 15% discount on tickets to the Outstanding Schools Middle East 2021 Conference (use the code EDDi5OS at checkout). BOOKINGS HERE
Happy reading
