Dear subscribers
Regular readers will know that EDDi has proudly and purposefully championed diversity in international education.
Inclusion has been a theme since our inception.
We’ve had articles on the challenges for non-native speakers, thoughts on blending local and foreign curricula, whiteness in international schools, numerous pieces on LGBT+ issues (here for example), advice on raising anti-racist children, and, on the more theoretical side, identity, intersectionality and inclusivity.
There have also been linked pieces on differential pay (the practice of paying local staff and expats different salaries, even where they are doing the same job).
And we’ve celebrated diverse voices, including articles, and retaining the voice, of writers for whom English is not a first language - here, for example.
In keeping with this theme, today’s edition is an inclusivity special.
We have a range of articles (and audio and video) which expand, deepen, and extend our focus on this crucial area.
Firstly, we are delighted to offer the Foreword to Dr Stephen Whitehead's forthcoming book' ‘Total Inclusivity at Work’, due for publication later this year:
Total Inclusivity at Work (also in audio form via Jason Lasky)
This piece is joined by three others:
Am I an English native? A reflexivity on the paradox of ‘native-ness’
Transitioning at Cambridge University
Community, Total Inclusivity and the Power of Knowledge
And, if that is not enough, the latter piece accompanies a webinar we conducted with Dr Rob Power, Founder of Powerful Histories (powerfulhistories.com):
We don’t ask often, but given the importance of this topic, we’d be very grateful if you shared with colleagues and friends.
Until next time.
Happy reading (and listening and viewing)
